WORKSHOP
How to design solutions to stimulate a human-centered environment in São Paulo by promoting the use of bicycles in the city? Urban mobility is one of the biggest challenges that cities have been facing in the last years. This is the result of the option for the individual transport at the expense of the collective ones. São Paulo, the most populous metropolis in Brazil, counts with the biggest national fleet of private vehicles. Pollution, immobility and stress are some of the effects brought by the increase of urban traffic congestion. Thus, a new way of thinking public space and public transportation systems became necessary. In the last years, São Paulo municipality has been providing spaces for biking in the city. Bicycle lanes cycleway, shared paths and bicycle routes have been introduced in the urban fabric as new alternatives to urban displacement taking into account their potential for sport and leisure as well.

3. How to help São Paulo municipality to create a better environment for bikes?

All projects had to meet the following criteria: - User experience - Local resources - Sustainable design principles - Accessibility - Urban issues - Innovation and creativity As a result of the this Initiative six proposes and prototypes were developed by the students and shared with the audience in the final presentation.
